This site provides information on Christopher McDowell’s consultancy and advisory activities. With the agreement of City, University of London, Christopher undertakes research and analysis for international organisations, governments and NGOs on forced migration, population displacement and resettlement, and humanitarian responses. He has specialist experience in involuntary resettlement, refugee resettlement and integration, and social and livelihood impacts.

Christopher McDowell has a PhD from Zurich University, Department of Ethnology. He is  a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute and has published widely on involuntary resettlement, refugees and migration conducting fielcornwall headshot 2dwork in East and Southern Africa, South and Southeast Asia and Europe. Christopher has advised development banks, governments, UN agencies and NGOs on forced displacement, resettlement and related livelihood issues. He has recently worked with UNHCR evaluating the UK Government’s Syrian refugee resettlement programme and is engaged in research on diaspora politics, refugee movements and security, and media reporting of asylum. Dr McDowell is a Reader in Political Anthropology at City, University of London, and Associate Dean for Global Engagement in the School of Arts and Social Sciences.
